Avengers, assemble a team that’s most likely going to be invited into the Criterion Collection. The upcoming MCU movie Thunderbolts* is heading into a new direction with its creative team and marketing as it seems like they’re trying to hit a new demographic of movie lovers. After a setback in the casting dept, it seems like the film has finally found its footing. Here’s everything we know, including the latest teaser trailer.

Who’s making the jump to the house of mouse?

Several former A24 creatives are heading over to the MCU. The writer and director of Beef Jake Schreier directed the film; he’s joined by Beef’s showrunner Lee Sung Jin, who co-wrote the film with The Bear’s Joanna Calo and frequent Marvel writer Eric Pearson. The Green Knight’s Andrew Droz Palermo is the director of cinematography, Minari’s Harry Yoon edited the film, and the band Son Lux, who worked on Everything Everywhere All At Once, composed the score.

Who’s in the cast?

Like many Marvel movies, a lot of familiar faces are returning to the franchise. Florence Pugh, Sebastian Stan, David Harbour, Wyatt Russell, and Olga Kurylenko are all reprising their roles from previous films, with some new members added, Julia Louis-Dreyfus as Valentina Allegra de Fontaine in her first Marvel film (she played the same role in The Falcon and the Winter Soldier TV series.)

What’s it looking like?

See? We told you they’re trying out new marketing. While the trailer let the A24ness talk, Thunderbolts* is about the gang of anti-heroes getting caught in one of Valentina’s traps and in order survive a deadly mission, they must learn to work together. Talk, Valentina, not-so-ally!

When is Thunderbolts* out?

It’s out on May 2, 2025.
