Laapataa Ladies, directed by Kiran Rao, has been officially selected for Oscars 2025 to be held in March next year. The film is a social satire where two newly wed brides get lost and find themselves in an unknown setting. Ravi Kishan, who played the village cop Shyam Manohar, got a lot of appreciation for his witty and progressive role. The actor is delighted that the film is India’s official entry for the 97th Academy Awards. Talking exclusively to BollywoodLife, Ravi Kishan expressed his feelings. “I am super elated and delighted. It is a very emotional moment and a very happy surprise. The whole credit goes to Kiran Rao, the writer of the film Sneha Desai, my co-actors,” Ravi said. He had a special word of thanks for Kiran and Aamir for having the faith in him to play the character of Shyam Manohar to perfection, “I would like to specially thank Aamir Khan and Kiran Rao for believing in me, having the faith and giving me this opportunity to be a part of such a wonderful film. This is overwhelming and I am excitedly looking forward to Oscars 2025.”

Apart from Ravi Kishan, Laapataa Ladies starred Nitanshi Goel, Pratibha Ranta, Sparsh Shrivastava, Durgesh Kumar, Chhaya Kadam in key roles. The film released in theatres on March 1, 2024 and is now available to stream on Netflix. This is Kiran Rao’s second directorial after Dhobi Ghat (2011). She has been a producer on films like Dangal, Talaash, Secret Superstar, Delhi Belly and Laal Singh Chaddha amongst others.
