Donald Trump, sounding like a lot of former theater kids who somehow know all the words to Lafayette’s rap from “Guns & Ships,” claims he never really enjoyed Hamilton. “I was never a big fan, I never liked Hamilton very much,” Trump said, per the Associated Press, ahead of his first Kennedy Center board meeting. Trump fired the previous board on February 12 and installed new members, including himself as chairman. That led multiple productions, including a tenth-anniversary production of Hamilton, to back out of performing at the venue.
Trump said in the press conference Monday that the Kennedy Center was in “tremendous disrepair” and that he wanted it to “improve very greatly.” “We are going to have some really good shows,” he added. The thing that does well are Broadway hits.” Patti LuPone’s not gonna stand for this.
