Even celebrities are only raving about this biographical sports drama helmed by Kabir Khan. The songs especially have become massive hits. The title song Tu Hai Champion has become an inspirational anthem. The song composed by Pritam Da is sung by Arijit Singh. The lyrics are penned by IP Singh. In an interview with us, IP Singh opened up on the collaboration and much more. Excerpts from the interview below: How did this collaboration take place and how did you come to pen the lyrics for this song? So, I keep working with Pritam Da on and off and he actually gets in touch whenever he thinks that there is something that he wants to get written by me. He got in touch for this song and he said that he just needed a song which inspires people and has a very high energy vibe. I wrote the song and then they liked it and that’s it. For the latest TV news and Entertainment News updates, follow BollywoodLife on WhatsApp. Did you know about the story and what served as a motivation? When I got to know what this is for I did my research, I read some articles and then I figured out that the story is actually quite epic and it’s a very unbelievable sort of a story. So that really inspired me but the thing was that it’s a story of a normal person, you know. It’s a story of a common man coming from a small place. Hence, Kabir sir also told me to choose very simple words so that everyone can connect to it. How was it working with Pritam Da and Arijit Singh? It was great! So this combination has happened with me earlier also in Dunki. When Pritam Da was the composer and then Arijit Singh sang it and I wrote that song. So this happened, the second time I had to experience that was equally amazing. The song is a certain song before Arijit Singh sings it and after he gives his voice and soul to it, it just comes with a totally different track. That’s what happens when you work with you know absolute A-grade people. Pritam Da gets his best and just makes a small melody into something great. Then Arijit ji’s touch takes it to the next level and I had my own contribution to the whole thing so it was a great experience. But how much of a part were you when it comes to you know composing and the actual finish of Chandu Champion‘s Tu Hai Champion? Actually, I wrote quite a few options and we tried some Punjabi option also. But in the end this one made the most sense. And in this one also there was a couple of changes. Dada being Dada he is not satisfied till you know he is satisfied. So even one day before the delivery we were making changes. So I was a part of it till the very end.
What kind of emotion did you intend to evoke with Tu Hai Champion? I think I was tapping into the emotion of self belief. The emotion because the place where the song comes is where the protagonist is tasting success for the first time. So that fresh self belief and the fresh confidence that you have, and what you call it jubilation, happiness and a sense of achievement, these were the things that I wanted to incorporate. That’s why lines like you know ‘Raushni dhunde tere ghar ka pata, Chaand hona chaahe sirhaana tera.’ So it’s basically about self confidence and believing in yourself.
