The year 2012 has aftershocks that scientists are still working to observe: Not only was it the year that saw the premiere of HBO’s Girls, it is also the year that “Call Me Maybe” took over the entire summer. Now, those things are colliding in ways the pre-COVID mind couldn’t comprehend. Lena Dunham and Carly Rae Jepsen are working together on a musical adaptation of the 1999 film 10 Things I Hate About You. Jepsen will write the score alongside her frequent producer Ethan Gruska, and Dunham will write the book with playwright Jessica Huang. Jepsen was mentioned in Girls — most notably in season one, when Booth Jonathan’s assistant quit her job to go support her boyfriend, who did lights on Jepsen’s tour. The musical will be directed by Christopher Wheeldon (MJ: The Musical), with music supervision by Tom Kitt (Next to Normal). It is being developed for Broadway. Does this mean CRJ will have to write raps for the teacher? Can’t wait to find out.
