Post this film’s success the makers started approaching him for negative roles. In 1971, Vinod he shared the screen space with Dharmendra and Asha Parekh’s film Mera Gaon Mera Desh. The film became a blockbuster and created records at the box office. He managed to win accolades by playing the villain’s role in this film. Vinod Khanna’s villainous role managed to win hearts. The actor reportedly used to charge Rs 35 lakhs fees. He even reportedly charged more than Amitabh Bachchan for the 1976 film Hera Pheri. He got Rs 2.5 lakh for this film, while Amitabh Bachchan charged Rs 1.5 lakh. His career got a direction in the 1977 film Parvarish which starred Shammi Kapoor and Amitabh Bachchan. He was not the first choice for his role in the film. Earlier, the role was offered to Rajesh Khanna, which went to Vinod. He gained a lot of fame and limelight, but then he left films.
