We asked if she can tell us something about the story for the sequel. Nidhi revealed that, like the first part, even the second one will be based on the lives of real soldiers. Nidhi said, “So, actually, the film is based on real characters, like all of Papa films are based on real soldiers. We had our Chief of the Defence Staff, General Bipin Ravat, who had passed away a couple of years ago. He was somebody that I really looked up to. I still look up to his models and the way he stood for the nation and protected us. Of course, unfortunately, we lost him in the helicopter crash a few years ago, but he had actually sat and Papa down, and he had given us a list of stories that he would have liked to be made into movies and post that, of course, we lost him.” Nidhi Dutta added, “But it was from those stories that I realised that there was a scope for making something that would have been a second part to Border. So that’s how the thought came about. Then, of course, I got my father’s permission, and honestly, I’ve never written anything before. So I surprised myself as well when I actually wrote it. But yeah, it’s for our soldiers. It’s the story of our soldiers, and it’s been given to us by the army. So we are very honoured, and we just hope that we can make them proud again.
Sunny Deol will be a part of Border 2. The actor delivered a blockbuster at the box office last year with Gadar 2. Does Nidhi Dutta hope the same for her movie? The producer answered, “Trust me, I’m praying about it every day. I can only pray. I cannot even explain the level of happiness that we felt when Gadar 2 succeeded. I remember when the movie succeeded and did the numbers that it did, and my dad said that it felt like a very personal victory. We’ve been close to the Deol family for so many years, and Sunny Uncle is such a big part of Papa’s career. We can only pray and hope, and we will work our hardest to make sure that we don’t let the audience down, and that we can make every Indian proud. I think, Gadar 2 is, of course, the nostalgia and the amazing movie that it was the first one, also, which I love, definitely, and the second one. But you know, Border has over the years become a very personal emotion for every Indian.”

Dutta added, “There are so many memories that people seem to have that are very personal, with the song Sandese Aate Hai and the Border movie. Every Indian, whether they’re living in India or abroad, has a memory of watching the movie. It has become a personal emotion for every Indian. So that is a very big feat for us as makers and for me as my dad’s daughter, having written the film. And of course, my grandfather had written the dialogue for the first film as well. So for me to write the story and the dialogue of this one single-handedly is a huge responsibility, and I can just hope and pray that, you know, we don’t let people down and we can do the numbers that people expect us to, but more than the numbers, I hope that it touches people’s hearts the way the first film did.” In an exclusive interview with BollywoodLife, producer Nidhi Dutta gets candid about writing Border 2, box office expectations and more.Â
